In a mere two weeks’ time, we will gather again at the Summer Workshop to network and learn and solve all of the challenges we face each day as municipal executives. I’ve seen the agenda and can assure you that Warren Rothe, his PDC committee, MML staff and Nicole Klepadlo have put together an amazing agenda! Truth be told, I find the networking opportunities to be just as valuable as the sessions. Don’t get me wrong; I always learn something in those sessions, but it’s the lunchtime chatter and those conversations over beverages in the evenings that are invaluable. Read more. |

Summer Workshop Includes Ethics Session

I am pleased to report that there will be an ethics session as part of this year’s Summer Workshop in Frankenmuth. Ethics Committee Vice Chair Juan Ganum will moderate a panel discussion featuring two highly respected colleagues (Gregg Guetschow and Mark Wollenweber) who will be highlighting some ethical scenarios that managers and assistant managers face at one time or another during their careers. Two weeks ago, Meridian Township welcomed our newest management intern. Will Christie, who grew up in St. Joseph, is a senior at MSU. Will’s goal (dream) is to become a city manager. During our initial discussion, Will asked me an interesting question. “For those of us just entering the city manager field, what advice would you give to help us be successful over the next 30 years?” I thought to myself, that’s an interesting question and fits right into MME’s Member Success Committee.
