Thanks for the Opportunity to Serve Such a Great Organization

I can't tell you how much MME in all its forms, from MCMA to MLGMA to MME, has meant to me. My life changed when I started my first village manager position in January 1990. A neighboring manager told me I just had to go to the upcoming MCMA conference in Grand Rapids. Wow, was he right! I met my wife, Amy, at that conference, and the knowledge, connections, and friendships I have gained over the years have been invaluable. Read more.

Exciting Winter Institute on Tap!

The Winter Institute program is coming together nicely, with pre-conference sessions on marijuana and great speakers for the Women's Symposium. Keynote sessions will cover leadership, leadership vs management, economic development, role of philanthropy, and creating a culture of civility. NextGen Forges Plans for New Year

The NextGen Committee has wrapped up another successful year of events, and we're excited for the coming Winter Institute.The committee will again be hosting a networking dinner during the event, on Feb. 6 at the Cricket Club in downtown Battle Creek. We'll also be sending out applications for MME Fellowship Host Communities. And we encourage you to lend your talents to the NextGen Committee. Read more

The ICMA Guidelines for our Code of Ethics encourage members to report possible violations. Fellow managers might see or hear a report that could be perceived as embarrassing to the profession. Out of esteem for our vocation and colleagues, we want to talk about it, learn from it, and encourage others with those lessons. That learning often occurs through case studies, where names and locations are changed. But what if a real life case study happens right in front of us? What do we do? Read more.




MME Board Endorses Cardenas for ICMA VP

The MME Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed Victor Cardenas, assistant city manager of Novi, for the Non-CEO, Midwestern Vice Presidential seat on the ICMA Execurtive Board.  Cardenas has shown great commitment to developing the next generation of managers, and has provided extensive service to both MME and ICMA. Grand Ledge Establishes Council-Manager Govt.

The State of Michigan's newest city Charter was approved by Governor Rick Snyder on May 15, 2018 and thereafter approved by voters in the City of Grand Ledge on Aug. 7, 2018. The new Charter, effective Jan. 1, 2019, officially establishes a council-manager form of government and formally recognizes the city manager as the city's municipal executive. Read more.
